I hate to beat a dead horse. No one likes to hammer at fellow Christians, much less Catholics. But Michael Voris of RealCatholicTV is one who is not afraid to promulgate the truth, and that’s something we need a lot more of these days, especially as so many Catholics are willing to sell out themselves, their faith and their Church for the holy grail of a mythical and unsustainable “social justice” through government running as much of our lives as possible. It is a sell out not only for its false promises, but for the actual harm it causes in the advancement of the culture of death.

Losing Our Religion? Catholicism Isn’t About Accommodation

RealCatholicTV.com founder Michael Voris continues his series on the corruption of the Faith by those who would use the Church in America as an extension of a political party or movement. Rather than focus on souls and Biblical Truths, too often we find Church leaders involved in social justice issues to “accommodate” the secular world.

That is the exact path taken by many protestant liturgical denominations, such as the Episcopal Church, which suffered a schism in North America last year (in one of the most important and under reported events of the decade). It happened primarily because it ceased to stand for the Truth and allowed “truth” to become relative among its dioceses, its parishes and even unto its parishioners. Truly, card or bowling clubs are more grounded in principle than some denominations.

But the Faith isn’t about accommodation. It’s about Truth and spreading it for the salvation of souls. “Social justice” is great, but there are several ways to achieve solutions to secular social issues — not the one-size-fits-all-big-government “fixes” unfortunately adopted by too many Church leaders. Not that they should even take sides. Besides, how is “global warming” a social justice issue?

If our Bishops only stayed quiet on these types of matters it would go a long way to furthering the Truth in that they could focus on the issues that have only one solution, such as protecting the unborn and traditional marriage. These are the Scriptural Truths we are called to defend.

Mr. Voris doesn’t mince words. He is on, and to, the point. He is worth listening to. What do you think?

Archbishop Wuerl, Out Of Comfort Zone, Defends Marriage To D.C. Government

The head of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl, is known for his behind the scenes pragmatism. He is not one for the limelight. But recently, in light of the D.C. City Council’s aggressive moves toward legalizing same-sex marriage, the Archbishop has publicly upped the ante as reported in today’s Washington Post.

His stand for the Word of God has caused some discomfort in the District’s Catholic community. Those upset are in two camps: Those who call themselves Catholic but don’t subscribe to the Church’s teachings and those who just can’t believe an American bishop won’t pull the liberal go-along line. After all, American bishops are supposed to support liberal social justice measures but stay quiet on abortion and marriage. They are shocked!

Of course, as written here before, the U.S. Bishops, unfortunately, are a bit naive. They play to the liberal social justice crowd and can’t understand why those types turn on them when they stand up for Biblical teachings. But, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, and now the liberals are upset that Archbishop Wuerl has told D.C. that if it legalizes same-sex marriage, Catholic Charities will put the breaks on its services in the city.

Unfortunately, the city council did vote 11-2 today to legalize homosexual marriage (see Post again, here). It is the first of two votes needed, but final passage and Mayor Adrian Fenty’s signature appear all but guaranteed.

There is some good news, however, in the culture war, according to the Washington Times. After Maine voters rejected homosexual marriage during last month’s elections, the New Jersey and New York legislatures have slowed down their marches to destroy the meaning of marriage.

Have The U.S. Bishops Awakened?

Or are they temporarily disappointed? Hopefully, they’ve awakened, and wouldn’t it be sweetly ironic if it was Madam Speaker Pelosi who stirred the sleeping giant that a unified American Catholic Church can be in injecting morality into public policy. The fear is that the bishops, if health care “reform” with all pro-abortion provisions is defeated, will go back to cozying up to leftists in Congress for so-called “social justice” legislation.

Here’s the story: It appears the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is ready to take massive action, including the mobilizing of every parish in the country, to fight the abortion-on-demand health care legislation in Congress. According to Priests For Life, the bishops are calling for bulletin inserts and other communications in every parish immediately to inform American Catholics of the dangers of the legislation.

Now, if we can get the excellencies to realize that we all agree on social justice, but that social justice does not mean socialism and disregard of established law, we’d really have something.
